I hate to break it to you, but most of what you eat Has been raised in pens and barns, solely for the meat. It hasn't run around in fields or even woods or glens, And I'd rather not eat something that's been stuck for years in pens!

I'll exalt you for breaking the bad news, but listen carefully to my muse, The conditions in which animals they keep, Is definately enough to make one weep, But I can safely say my freindly lass, Eating steak is better than grass

Grass?! Yuck! I'm with you there. If grass was all there was, my plate'd stay bare! But the variety of foods that exists on this earth Is such that there's no danger of such a dearth Of wonderful things that are good to eat Without ever touching a bite of meat.

Bagels and donuts and berries with cream Crackers and cheese are sufficient, I deem.

Lol! You're welcome to steaks and roast beef, hot I often use leather, so just call me the pot. (As in, the one who called the kettle black? Eh, never mind.)

The sadest and harshest truth that I tell, is when suffereing animals are tormented to hell. They are used in laboratories to be tested each day, for cosmestics and cleaners, the animals pay.
So next time you clean your kitchen or loo, or use make-up when you want to look pretty too. If you product's not BUAV approved, fear! As the blood of the animals is on your hands, my dear.

I know, its wrong and sad in a way, That animals suffer for us every day, But, when, you're on tablets and feeling really flat, you'll be ever so glad they tested that rat

I'd druther they tested on critters than people although it'd be nice if neither were needed. For frivolous things I agree, it shouldn't be, But life-giving medicines -the need must be heeded. (I'd like to add that this is solely my opinion and I don't mean to disrespect your stance; you have a very valid point, Fontis. I just couldn't think of a way to phrase it better while still making it rhyme. A poet, I'm not! )

Firstly Although I'm not much at politcal debate I think you missed the point I did make.
However, Thousands of Americans die each year From drugs that the rats have deemed all clear
But hey, I mentioned not about drugs and pills my grudge is against what I think are mear frills. like lipstick & powder and bleech and even dog food forgive me, but testing these just seems too crude.
(It's heartless and pointless - Body Shop manage without doing it so why can't companies like L'Oreal)

(I refuse to ascribe to any line of thought whose logical extension was used by Hitler: We are good/valuable, they are bad/expendable)

(Again, running out of rhymes. But I know too many people who would have died without medicines tested on animals to NOT feel grateful that they exist. And knowing them, could I really condemn the practice altogether? "No, you cured all my friends, so that's good enough, you have to stop testing new medicines now"? I can't do it. I don't like it, but I'll live with it. I do agree completely, however, on cosmetics and other frills. There's no excuse for testing such things on animals. And Torra, good point. I don't COMPLETELY agree, but it's still a really good point.)

<completely not rhyming, forgive me but, the issue is quite volatile here. Granted we use animals to test drugs and cometics on but the benefits those test reap for us are very valuable. I do regret that the animals can and do suffer for us, and that very much pains me, shoot I hate to see a silly armadillo get run over, and will only hunt if I have to get meat for the table. Concentrated farming techniques are common where I live, home ground of Tyson's and Wal-Mart. There are hundreds of chicken houses and hog houses in this area to make the meat for your chicken breast filet or nuggets and the bacon or suasage on your McMuffin. Consider the world population growth and the demands for food . . . the concentrated farming techniques employed make sense in that light. I do think the practice of veal raising is cruelish, but I also to eat veal on occasion. the growth rate of our population and the expansion of cities is such that the arable land is being used for housing and new mini-malls instead of next years loaf of bread (x10K) or the lttle farmstead that had sold 6 dozen home grown eggs each week. I t is sad and regretable that we, Mankind, become as Mr Smith said in the Matrix, a virus on the planet . . . but luckily there are many of us that do our bit to help our Mother Earth and protect our dwindling resources of flora and fauna and stand up to the expansionists. I am one of those despite what I just wrote. I recycle, carefully chose where and what meats I buy and live as green as I can. I am now taking myself to the ToT for lecturing in this thread , sorry I know I desevre it, going now JTG>
