A love of poetry, a flare for the dramatic, and enough obscure knowledge to bury a Tarrasque. Yep, I think I qualify. What do you suppose you would be? I like the "excuses" angle, it's clever. More clever than "The end of the world" anyway. And I agree with you on the object of a riddle. The more poetic, it seems, the easier to grasp. Let's see if I can't shake things up a bit: If a man has two sons and he gives one son 10 cents and the other son 15 cents, what time would it be? (I know it doesn't rhyme, but it's an old favorite.)

Wow, TWO stumpers to bump my head against! Lol. What TIME would it be? Allowance time? Lol, wow, that one's pretty tricky. Hm, just after pay-day... evening? Could be winter and they've just shoveled the drive... or summer and they've just weeded the garden... huh. Boy howdy, I may need a hint on this one!
(Me? I'd be an NPC. One of those brief characters whose sole purpose is to send the adventurers on a new quest or translate some mouldering scrap of parchment for them. And I'd be so traumatised I'd dye my hair and move to a new town and they wouldn't recognize me when they crossed my path again. Hee hee hee!)
Irishman would be a MOSTLY retired adventurer running the kind of tavern he wished would be around when he goes questing... right? heh, I can see it now...
Hmmm, Irishman, that could be so many things! A sleeping pet, a quilt (for peaceful, just name one of the many patterns with 'peace' or 'serenity' in the title, lol), a beanbag chair in plush (peas-ful, get it? lol), the possibilities there are pretty wide-ranging!

hey, Praetheus... is the answer:
1:35? (25 to 2?... or would that be 1:45 from a quarter to two?)
Irishman's is a real stumper! no idea on that one.
Love the card talk... Half the fun of opening decks was looking at all the art work.

The answer is "A quarter to two." Well done, Cynder. You're only the third person to ever guess the correct answer without any hints. Good job.

I don't know where to begin on your riddle, Irish. Sounds more like the royal suite at the inn than anything. But since we don't have another riddle going I guess I'll supply one.
My first and my second are centered in string My third is in peasant yet also in king My fourth in a gaggle is easy to see And the quest for love ends with me
(I can't recall if I've posed this one before. If I have please forgive me and let others take a crack at it.)

(Wow. Guess I haven't been here in a while. Sorry.) Anyway, you're right on it Hermione but you went a little too far. "And the quest for love ends with me" is literal, as in that's what the quest for love ends with - a ring. So you got it, you just over thought it a bit.

Hee hee, just ring, huh? That does make rather more sense.

I'd dare to look at your hat but I don't think it'd help answer your riddle. Problem is, Irish, that it's more a string of synomins than anything and a riddle usually has a trick to it that'll help you find the answer or becomes plain if you change your prospective. Anyway you look at it, though, your riddle sounds like a description. I'll give it my best 'go' and say it's a teddy bear. Am I right?
