Ok...Just give me a minute...
There is a common English word that is nine letters long. Each time you remove a letter from it, it still remains an English word - from nine letters right down to a single letter. What is the original word, and what are the words that it becomes after removing one letter at a time?

Torra has six pairs of black gloves and six pairs of brown gloves in her drawer. In complete darkness, how many gloves must she take from the drawer in order to be sure to get a pair that match?
This is the first time I have been to this forum, and I see that there hasn't been a riddle posted in a while, so I thought I would try my hand at it. have fun! JTGirl

Huh, you all had the NEATEST riddles while I was away... and I come back in between them! Drat.
There are four words in the English language ending in -dous. Tremendous, Stupendous, Horrendous, and....
There. That's a semi-riddle, right?

Wait a minute, how could a week, even on a leap year, go from Friday to Wednesday? Maybe it's subjective time, but he started the trip from across the international date line, so when he went home he was actually going to a different place than where he started? Okay, that won't work, it's only one day. So, maybe "wednesday" is the name of the plane he came back from the trip on? Hmmm, delightful conundrums!

Only here for a minute...trying for carpal tunnel whilst enchanting my stuff.
Hermoine's riddle will be the end o' us!
The word I believe you want is hazardous. I seem to remember from my sadistic high school English teacher that there are over 90 words that end in -dous. Most are scientific descriptions. I remember a few that aren't: timidous, discordous, turgidous, jeopardous.
Back to wrist spraining 101.

I know I posted this before, maybe it got missed?? the answer really is 13. She could possibly take out 6 black left hand gloves and then 6 brown left hand gloves, the next one would have to be the right hand hand match. ( or it could go the other way, 6 right black and brown ,and the 13th one would have to be the left match)

ummm justthis girl...I don't understand.it seems to me that you wouldn't have to take out all twelve of the left handed gloves. If you take out just seven, you have to have both colors because you can only have up to six of one color. The eighth glove would then be right handed and it wouldn't matter what color it was. You would have to end up with at least one left handed glove and one right handed glove of the same color. Somebody please tell me if that makes sense. I hope I explained it clearly enough.

Veela, you did miss something, sorry. You take out 7, fine, and let's say 6 of those 7 were brown and the 7th was blue (forgot the original colors, sorry). And they're all left handed, yes? So what do you have left: you have 6 brown right-side gloves, 5 blue left-side gloves, and 6 blue right-side gloves. Now, the CHANCES are pretty good you'll be able to complete a pair of the same color glove on your next pull, but you COULD conceivably pull out one of those 5 blue left-side gloves. In that case, you wouldn't be able to complete a pair. Instead, you'd have 6 brown left-side gloves, and 2 blue left-side gloves. To GUARANTEE that you could get a pair, you'd have to take out enough so that you could CONCEIVABLY have all of the left-handed gloves of both colors (12) plus one more, which would have to be right-handed, and the color wouldn't matter because you could complete a pair either way. So the answer is 13. Did that help?
Fox, did you ever say whether any of the guesses we made were correct?

Yup, it's right. (Justice of the Peace was the official answer, because I don't think women can be priests? Isn't that the Catholic one? But it's definitely right!) Your turn, oh mighty Frizzer!

On the way to a session he comes to a bridge which has a sign posted saying the bridge could hold only a maximum of 80 kilograms.
Steve weighs 78 kilograms and the gold weighs three kilograms.
He reads the sign and still safely crossed the bridge with all the gold.
How did he manage this?
