We're talking about a christopher moore book. He wont be reincarnated as a baby. They will put his soul in a person who is already full grown.

It's a sad comment on his relationship with his wife, though. What was her name again? Keep in mind that I read this at the book store when it first came out, so it's been awhile. Anyway, as I recall it was her soul that eventually ended up in the cd, and then in Ms. Lizard Lady (whatever HER name was) but HE didn't HAVE a soul then. Or at least, I thought I remembered that she (Dressed-up stuffed-squirrel lady) told him he didn't? Which was why I thought he was more permanently dead at the end. But maybe she lied or I'm remembering wrong. Do you have the blasted thing in front of you? References would be nice. Bah. Where was I going with this, anyway? Oh, yeah. And how come it was never really explained what his daughter would actually have to DO about her role? I almost thought she was going to precipitate Armageddon and she was looking forward to seeing her dad again -when EVERYONE was dead!

Have you read anything else by Chrsitopher Moore, Raynin? "Lamb" is the most famous, I think.

Lamb and the stupidest angel are both on the best sellers list at some point. His Wife's name was Rachel, and the squirrel lady's name was audrey. Audrey told him that he DID have a soul, which is how he was transposed into a squirrel thingy.

Ah, okay. That does help. Do you think Rachel would have become a Death Merchant, too? And that's why their daughter is so special -because she would have been born to two Death Merchants?

Well they never successfully explain why he becomes a death merchant, but they DO say that all death merchants have B type personalities. Rachel, on the other hand, DEFINANTLY had a type A personality.

Well, that was a theory, but frankly I don't see Audrey as a B type personality, and she's a Death Merchant by the end of the book, isn't she?

No she isnt a death merchant. She has some of the same abilities as a death merchant (seeing sould objects) but she got them in a different way and has none of the responsibilities.

Hm. I figured that whoever could see the soul objects would end up as a Death Merchant, however they acquired the ability. You are making it a lighter book!

Well good. But no I dont believe she was a death merchant. She could see souls for a while before the end of the book but had no other death merchant abilities/responsibilities. I think she got off scotch free in that dept.

Yeah, until she found out what was what. Then she at least had the moral responsibility to start taking on those duties. I wonder if she could? I don't think she had that going-invisible-near-a-death thing going, and she probably wouldn't get that "the money takes care of itself" deal, but I bet she could manage. Heck, someone would need to take over Charlie's store anyway.

When he gets his another body he could take care of his own skill. I dont think it would necessarily be a moral responsibility to do a task like that. The point of the book was that all worked out as it should if there were no meddling forced, so if she didnt get involved then everything would still work out as it should.

Maybe... but an awful lot of poor innocent souls got eaten because of her interference. It'll be awhile before that debt gets paid back -and I should think becoming a Death Merchant would be the simplest method to begin it. Lol, simple being a relative term, of course! Say, with those critturs vanquished for a while, does that mean the Death Merchants can have their weekly or monthly get-together again? (There's a neat word for once-a-month recurring things. What the heck was it? Something to do with lunar stuff. It's like "annual" only for months. Bah. I need a reverse dictionary, where you put in the definition and it gives you the words!)

No. It's a MUCH neater word than that. Sigh. Guess it's about time I read the dictionary again.

When I find it I'll put it in the Useless Knowledge thread.
Speaking of neat words, we haven't used "lagom" in a while! That has to change... hm. Maybe we should hold a contest -best use of the word wins... um... five exalts!
Oops -topic, right, right, topic.
Um, 7th book -okay, I've got it!
What do you think the 'graduation' ceremony is going to be like?
