princess mononoke: a great movie with not so subtle environmental overtones. Theres another one with a similar theme by Miyazaki that involves Tanukis (little shape shifting raccoon creatures) that can stretch their privates -_- I saw it with a few friends and happened to fall asleep before I could see the really scarring moments. Moral of the story: don't deforest areas where Tanukis might inhabit!
Akira, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Trigun are also pretty good if you're into futuristic/ post-apocalyptic storylines.

Like a stewed peach in lots of syrup!!!!! No, actually I have no idea. The only final fantasy movie im familiar with is Final Fantasy: Advent Children, which stars characters from FF7 (which sadly was the last FF that Ive played). But FF is such a lucrative series there must be tons of stuff out there related to it.
As for whether theyre all anime-type movies, Hermione, they are but that would be a half truth. Before a story is turned into anime, they are usually first cartoons drawn on paper called manga. Akira was originally a manga series, which was later adapted onto film. The rest are were also originally manga but rather than being made into movies, they were turned into TV shows with the story line spread out over several episodes. Anime is an umbrella term for the medium that many Japanese artists use to express lots of themes: on love, politics, pretty much anything under the sun.

So anime is the television version of manga? Okay, I can follow that. I suppose we got the word from 'animation'?

i think it might be a japanese word.. alot of japnese words mimic american words phonetically. like how "gameboy advance" is "gemuboi adavansu" in japanese. anime could be a japanese rendition of animation in english. or i could be pulling bs out my rear end

Thank you. I found a magazine about anime last night called (oddly enough) "Anime."
