Oops. And I wasn't going to do that... lol! Good one, though, you had us stumped for a long time.
Okay, um, um, um... Use me to treat what I can be killed by, though only if a sheltered sort I be. My flourescence comes but once seven years, a useless endeavor of yellow.
Um, that's enough to be getting on with, I guess. I'll post more if it's needed.

Okay, closest we've had so far is MM's 'Cactus'.
Let me recap, though:
Use me to treat what I can be killed by, though only if a sheltered sort I be. My flourescence comes but once seven years, a useless endeavor of yellow. A good cook shouldn't need me, but to the beginner I am a friend. I will grow with your skills, for to use me is to lose me. A Healer I am, with a Healer's Arts. From desert to drawing room, I am to be found, a splash of plump green that will outgrow my bounds.

Oh, hurray! VISITORS! and people keeping the thread alive, I love the riddle thread. Although I confess I'm having a little trouble with 'log' for Argentum's first riddle. How could that fit in a sack or on your back?! YungGun... nope, just not going to touch that. Not with a ten-foot pole. Hi, Morge! Great to see you! (Although you got that way too quickly, I didn't get to guess. Hee hee! ) Argentum, I like these, haven't seen them before. Have any more? Please? I'll finally send you 'Good Omens'... no, wait, I'm doing that anyway. Whoops.

Perhaps it should be explained that Argentum's first riddle wasn't really a riddle at all but a little jingle from about a decade ago. Save yourself the mental exertion and don't try to make sense of it, Hermione. And in the meantime:
What has two faces but only one head?

Oh, goodness, all sorts of things could fit that. The first that springs to mind is a coin. Then I go back to the Oz books, but I think the critters in that series I'm thinking of had FOUR faces on each head.
PS I love Quinton Hoover's artwork! (your avatar)

I really liked his 'whispers of the muse' or whatever it was, though... there was almost a water-colour feel to it, with the inking on top... Magic cards really introduced me to a lot of good artists. The Foglios and Nene Thomas and Tony DiTerlizzi.... oddly enough, Richard Kane Ferguson wasn't in my top three. Up there somewhere, though, that's for sure! Hey, do you remember who did that Imp thing (second edition black card with a big grinning imp-face and I think a candle)? *hangs head* I am SUCH a nerdette.
Oh, right, another riddle so's we can have more than one going, since I seem to have stumbled upon Praetheus'...
Follow me, if you like, though I only go in one direction Watch me morph, watch me change, I come in quite a selection, I grow when I'm cold, and scream when I heat, and to live without me's an impossible feat.

I don't think I could have a top 3 list without Rebecca Guay; her art is amazing! Though Quinton Hoover's "Regeneration" (my avatar) wins my all-time favorite, hands down. As for the picture you described, there is a card called "Norritt" that depicts a grinning imp face, though it was printed in Ice Age and it's the imp's finger tip that's lit-up - not a candle. That piece was inked by Mike Raabe. However, I think you are more likely recalling the "Nettling Imp" which shows a tiny, winged imp smiling wickedly from atop an open book on a desk with a candle. This was printed in Alpha, Beta, and so on and is another one of my favorites. And naturally, Quinton Hoover is the featured artist. As you can see, I have quite a few ranks in Knowledge (Nerd) myself. But all that aside, I believe the answer to your riddle is water. Am I right?

Yes! Nettling Imp, that was it! I have about five of those, love the picture, though darned if I can remember where I put any of them. I do like Rebecca Guay, too, she does a lot of green and white cards, have you noticed? Anyway, yes, water was it! Such an easy target for making riddles around -hee hee! An Ode to a Toothbrush might be the most puzzling yet; prosaic objects seem the most elusive. Hmm, 'Ever ready but never on time'... end of the world, huh? I suppose that could work. I was thinking myself more along the lines of 'excuses', but then, lol, I'm against some deadlines just now myself. Praetheus, if life were D&D you'd make an excellent Bard, I think!
