"And there came to be a free knight of the realm, by the name of Potter, who wished to establish his own kingdom....And he was aided by an Amazon, Known as Cynder, who pointed out the massive task that this would be. And thus did the Knight and the Amazon create Clan Gryffindor. And then did the Knight become smoted by the demands of the real world and bequeathed his throne to Sir JTG. And all the while Lady Cynder did quest for personages to populate the noble realm of Gryffindor, where chivalry is not dead, honor above all else and a belief in kindness and generosity did color all deeds. . . . ." ~Torra If you want to see what's up with this, it can be found in the Leaky Cauldron in a thread called "Hiya" started by one Carnelianfire. But the upshot is that we want you to spend the time to type up your history with Gryffindor here; how you heard about it, when/why you did/didn't join, momentous occasions while in it, and other such things. What you type here may/probably will be eventually permanently placed in the Hall of Rememberence on the clan website: www.ClanGryffindor.comThanks.

One day when innocently reading a book, my brother came along and said to me, "Come here, I want to show you something." So I wandered after him and soon found myself initiated into the near-cult of the DC World. I settled in to be amused, and was so amply rewarded that when he suggested I join the clan he was starting, I was quite ready to venture into the strangeness that was the castle, and follow his instructions for the gaming and other options to be found there (I was quite willing to play happily in the forest the rest of my days until he opened up this new world), and shortly my characters were all Gryffindorians. Some time thereafter, he set me down and carefully walked me through the steps to become a member of the clan website. Since when I have been busily employed cluttering up the space with genial but trivial nonsense. -Hermione

Verily, verily, aeons ago, when Behemoths did roam the Net, a youngish sprite did wander the scape, to and fro in search of free entertainment. With fair-to-middlin' wonderment did she espy a funderous game of the Title "Dragon Court." In these olde days she played with two obscurely-named characters "Atahualpa" and "Eowedien," bumbling across the landscape on her own and Lo! It was entertaining. The young lass did grow bored and began a search across the bleak online countryside for a Clan of Friendship and Much Chatter but alas, none were to be had. Further into lonesome boredom she slid, her chosen Clan, whilst friendly, was not overly active. Finally, she turned away from the Lands of DC and wandered further afield into higher tech adventures, once even shelling out five gold per month to play a game in which people of juvenile minds were accosting her with various annoyances daily...and it was boring. So she retuned to the Lands of Dc with new oddly-named characters and began her lonesome quests anew(as her old clan had all but dissappeared, only a few scorched stones where its somewhat mighty hall once stood) until she espied "Clan Gryffindor" and its merits writ upon the Clan Hall wall. She joined and was verily ensconced within its meritorious Clan Halls where there was much laughter and amusement to be had and she was a happy lass for she'd found her DC Home. The Ende

ok, a bit of history for you, no stories, just truths... i used to play for a LONG time... and i never knew what a clan was, oreven how to get into one... but i continued to quest in the mointains and the docks... (remember the docks? you float around in a ship but find nothing and must return for supplies?)
one day while on the phone with a very good friend of mine, i happened to tell him about this wonderful game called dragon court.... and the next thing you know... he was HOOKED. we always talked on the phone, and soon i found myself learning from him, this person that i had introduced into this game. then one day he called me up and asked me what clan i was in... i replied none, and he showed me how to join a clan, and told me to join gryffindor! the next thing i know, he calls me up, and tells me the big news.... he had taken over as leader of the clan....
that's right, JTGuy, our leader and friend, was started in this game by little ol me... LOL funny how things turn out!!

While browsing for online adventure games, I found a forum site, where a guy had said "DC a lovely little game I played for a while". I found it and created Frizzer. He plodded on day after day looking up to the high and mighty and the huge bids for things he wanted in th TP. Then one day a silver, yes a beautiful silver throwing knife,,,,Frizzer traded it for 30k drakes, aware of the vets looking in disgust at draking he figured it was the only way to gain enough strength to go to new places. Even so he speant months blind in the mounds. Eventually Frizzer was strong and brave and now traded and was in a clan, the shadow wolves ,alas no more. He began to help new players in the tavern and eventually helped with some advice a man called justthisguy. Justhisguy was in a clan called Gryffindor, so Frizzer joined and after a while they got thier own website. Frizzer one day bragging about his huge stats got lumbered with the enchanting job, but he didn't mind as he had met some wonderful people who he hoped would be around for a long time.

Well....hhmmmm.... I started around a year and a half ago, probably. Maybe two years. I played very little in the beginning, didn't make it far, only the forest and barely that. Well I quit after a while, (you realize I hadn't found the tp/clans yet) and came back to it around half a year later. I remembered my pass somehow, started up again, and lo and behold, I found the trading post. I immeadiately fell in love with it, and being too poor to buy anything only posted in giveaways. I joined Titan I think, since I saw it was number 1. I couldn't get the site to work touhgh and soon left. Then I joined an obscure clan, Band of Brothers I think it was. Plenty of good hopes and ideas but noone in it actually talked, posted on their teeny forum they had, or responded to my DC letters I sent to the leader, so I quit. Then, I joined SOIA. I think they were like 15th then. New. I never really got accustemed (ouch spelling please?) to their site thoguh and quit again. (yeah I was definetely a clan hopper) Then, finally, I hit pay dirt. Knights of the Dragon. Wow, their site was the only one I could easily use, register was 2 minutes, real fast, and everyone was active and very friendly. I got new and better stats. I quickly started moving up the ranks. By the time JackTheBear had to leave as clan leader, I had nice stuff (including 34d old slips) and was about to get a council seat. Then he left, and so did others in the clan. I became Head Armourer and was pretty important. Then it started to get quieter. And quieter. Soon it was really just me, crestfallen, hisbutkickness, and jj_smokes. And now and then Avanon. Then only me and crestfallen. Now and then jj. I got sick and tired of it and decided painfully to leave. I started my own clan for the second time, The Hydra. It didn't work out. I joined Gryffindor. My prayers, were finally answered. I had found the right place! I had already been pretty active on the site before I left KotD so I knew my way around already. And since that day I joined, I have never regretted it. This is the clan for me. By the way I think in my clan-hopping phase I did join Gryffindor once.

Billions of Years ago, when the earth was just born the wizard vertigo and his fair bride-to-be, though at that time they were merely courting, were sitting at the magic box that vertigo had built to access a strange and interesting place called "the internet." The dutchess Jen had spent much time on this magic box, and had discovered a game that she wished to introduce to the great wizard, who she affectionatly called chase. Vertigo watched her play for a while, but laughed at the horrible graphics, non-existant gameplay, and Jen's inability to stay alive in the forest. However, when the dutchess Jen had traveled back to her own far away kingdom, Vertigo decided to try his luck at this 16-bit magical game. Verti wanted very much to create a stronger character than his beloved Jennifer, as he would take great delight in rubbing her nose in it every chance he got. As you can see vertigo was a fair and just man, with more honor than 10 men. He then heard of "clans," which were supposebly a group of people to help you out. Vertigo decided to join the largest clan, where he assumed would be the nicest people. He recieved the welcome of a snake in a hen house. It is needless to say Vertigo did not want to stay in a place where he seemed unwanted. He began a new search for a better clan, and at the same time discovered a trading post. A place to trade away your gear and get new and better ones? This seems impossible. Vertigo did not know how to handle such a change in a game that he found one dementional. He began to trade, and trade hard. He had traded for a while, when he saw a galliant knight by the name of JustThisGuy ride to some peasants rescue and give him a gift. Vertigo was even more amazed to see that Justthisguy was in a clan called Gryffindor. Vertigo was known throughout the land as a harry potter conosuer, and so decided to "test the waters" in their forum to see if they were friendly. Vertigo recieved a warm welcome, so he quit his former clan, who to this day has only found a handful of likable people in (*waves. HI THARRIS) and joined a new clan. A more helpful. THE CLAN OF THE GODS-- Gryffindor.

it all began when I found the green metorite in my back yard . . . wait a minute wrong story .. . lol I had been playing dc for I dont know how long when I got a dc note form this person named Cynder. she introduced herself and said shw was from this thing called clan Gryffindor and I if would like some information about them to just ask. Well curiosity was piqued so I wrote back and said"tell me"; it did not hurt that I like gryffins then next letter told me that they were a small clan of friendly people that enjoyed DC, the leader of the clan was her son, Potter. If I was interested in joining their ranks just write to him and he would help get in. so I wrote to Potter next, it was then that I made the harry Potter and House Gryffindor connection in my mind. I got the detailed instructions letter from him and walked into the clan hall and joined. A few weeks later I asked for help to get past that pesky castle guard; the next package had ginseng roots and blast powder!! that guard was toast!!! I became a Knight of the realm!! (ok I was a squire first!) I quested merrily and died often until I again asked for advice from the great sage, and he shared his vast knowledge with me, but it was slow . . . I found silvers and sent them to him since he had so generously sent me 3 million marks! and some other things called bottled faires ( I used to kill them before I learned what they did!) He then asked me to be the Clan Trader so I did! he now sent me silvers and rares and I traded like crazy, slowly building a reputation as an honest guy. We eventually talked on the phone and communciations were better and I learned more about the DC world and its denizens. I got the wife and kid involved and we all quested together and had great fun. Well I then got hooked on drakes!! I had a 300-1000 drake a day habit and would binge on the weekends and would eat like 2000!! It was not pretty, but I gained lots of levels, was top of the fame list for one day and rapidly gained guts, charm and wits, and rank 13 (Sen) with all the things I kept finding and sending the good stuff Potter he told me to stop!!! he more thatn he could ever use for new members. That is when I became the Gryffindor Giver of Gifts. I would cruise the tavern and tp looking for poor beggars needing help and would send them nice items like 105 glads, and 60d targes, 19-22d slips, spikeys, and shurks. I would send full body suits and a little note "a gift from me, the GGoG, if you dont have a clan consider joining us, a bunch of friendly folks that have fun w/ dc" we got several members from this effort, and it was great fun! I still send out a gift pack now and again when I think of it.(note to self, send out some ggog packs). The clan slowly grew and their were some more Gryffindor traders, Felix2000 and BOBON, (wonder what happened to them?, hmmmm) Then the Great one, Potter called me and asked me to lead the Clan. I thought about it and said yes. He told me that we would have a website one day soon, and a few months later we did!! By that time we had the update and all the MLR's I had collected for the grand opening were rendered . . well mediocre witht ht enew weps from azteca, and now there are level restrictions !! and what was witht this rust stuff!! |Well again I traded hard and got new gear and networked with my other dc freinds, made some good deals and got my $$ up to a high number. I grew and the clan grew. I asked and got helpers and want to acknowledge their wonderful and valiant efforts, Dawnie, Frizzer, thanks, and Rind and Vertigo who followed and have done so great !! my hat is off to you and bow deeply to you! Well now we are the number 5 clan in the land. A long way from the days when we were number 24 and I was so happy we were on the list! Gryffindor is in my mind on of the most respected, active and recognized clans in all of DC. WE dont care if you are from another clan, we just want everybody to have fun and enjoy the game and the great freinds we have here. My wife says I am too addicted to the game, but is not the game that I am addicted to . . . . it is too the people, my freinds . Justthisguy

This is a sort of continued history; I posted it in the "War Stories" forum, but thought the rest of you might enjoy it. I started with a quote of the character description, but you can see that in ou contest, so here's the rest: "Baroness Mairghread is perturbed. She had first left her village with the noble determination to show the modern bloodthirsty hero that there were many ways to become famous. A legend, she was firmly convinced, could arise around those who showed their opponents true compassion! War was not the only way into the bards' tales. She'd laid in a goodly supply of food, and took with her the unexpected inheritance from her Aunt Hermione (also of Gryffindor) to bribe her way past those few bloodcrazed creatures that could not be brought to see reason. Mairghread also had a firm policy of dodging away from any creature determined to soil her hands with its blood -she was quite swift, and managed to out-run many a fight! But her clean record faltered and broke when she came to the forest. It seemed some boars were so eager to get to the food she gave away that they would run up and choke themselves to death upon the hand outstretched to feed them! And some ogres were so greedy for her bribes that they would strangle themselves in the drawstrings of her purse -there seemed to be no method of saving them. What should she do? Being a very charming sort, Mairghread used her wiles to get inside the castle gates. She sought advice from her Aunt Hermione's clan, the great Gryffindorians, but none of them had ever considered the problems of a confirmed peace-lover. After deliberating, the consensus seemed to be that she should take refuge in the palace court, with the nobles who prefered talk and game and gambling to the rigours of the field. This sufficed for some time, and Mairghread's charm soon had her a Baroness, but she could not be long content in such an environment. She was determined to go out into the world and feed all the hungry beasts! And yet, her very first foray into the forest she once knew so well left a trail behind her, littered with suicidal boars, gryffins, and ogres. Seemingly the elves, snots, and unicorns were the only creatures of sense, who knew when to fight and when to refrain. But what to do about the rest? Her quest continues... (At least now she knows what happens when a hero refuses to fight. The question had been nagging at her for quite some time...)"

Well....lol....I thought I was the only person that did silly things in this game.
I played for at least 2 years before i knew there was a trading post. (Dathron) I did figure out fearys were a GOOD thing quickly though and I also had a drake addiction (JTG). Probably my biggest mess up was going from the forrest straight to the mountains.....just getting killed like crazy till I ran out of fearys.....did not realize the dungeons were next in line.
I also got a letter from Cynder.....had actually been thinking about joining a clan....just had no idea how or whom. I said....sure....your the first one that had asked me....ok...I have no kids so not a huge Harry Potter fan...but pretty cool movies. So Trisultan and his 10 pals all joined.
I know I am not overly involved......but kinda like JTG...sent lots of stuff to Potter and now JTG gets the stuff I send out for the newbs. I am more of a behind the scenes guy. My characters are between level 35 and 40...and prince and viceroys with Trisultan a regent.
I am a banker with my own office....so most every day....I end up doing something related to DC....TP, boards....might even sneak a character questing in when the boss is out. Recently started messing around on the TP.......have got shafted a few times....but is quite entertaining out there.
Have visited with JTG, Potter, and Verti (who by the way has helped me make some sense out of the TP)....so yea......not just a game.
I don't mind looking for items if anyone has something they want...so just let me know

My story,
A young Kansas kid barely knowing what the Internet was started surfing and found this game called DragonCourt and this game was simply amazing, not ever really knowing what I was doing just kept playing and playing, prior obligations prevented my from playing for 3 or 4 years then I was sitting in my computer chair and said, "Does that game still get played?" I signed and played realized I needed a clan if I wanted to play so I scoped the clan forums and found Gryffindor and I was amazed at how helpful they were and I sent a petition. Thanks to all you guys I am now a faithful player to this game...
Not much of a story but heres a little diddy I heard and it really meant something to me. It touched my heart. So the first one to guess the answer wins the knowledge and wisdom held with this.
Why did the chicken cross the road?

It is funny that you should mention this...
It was the last class, of the last term, of our last year in high school... Potter and I were being held captive in a terrible place, where we were given typing assignments to complete everday in class. After finishing these tasks, and still having nearly the entire class period left to eat away at our sanity, we would play the games permitted by our instructor, such as Typer Shark and Text Twist, but secretly, I would also play Dragon Court. In an act of unprecidented compassion, I told Potter of the game, and soon enough, this clan had its humble beginning, but my story is older than this...
It was nigh seven years ago when one of my dearest friends, bless his soul, introduced me to the game. I soon had several characters that I played daily, traveling great distances by foot, and sometimes Dragon-back to obtain access to the mystical powers of the internet, which at that time so eluded me. Many of my friends were introduced to the game in those times, only a few played for more than a couple days. But one stood out amongst the rest--the brave and noble Incara. I soon grew disinterested in the game, however, and Incara soon followed suit. As the years passed, I would play on and off, fading in and out of interest. Soon I shall return to the game yet again, but who knows for how long...

i remember starting this game when beast wars was showing on fox kids so i named one of my first characters Quickstrike7 after the trash cowboy talking scorpion/snake fuzor. found dc while yahooing "java games." clicked on the link and found registration to be easy even for the 10 yr old mind. i think DC used to allow character registration at the login page, you would simply pick an id and pass and sign in with that but my memory might be playing tricks on me. i actually thought the graphics were quite fantastic, not in the spectacularly realistic CGI sense. something about the vibrant colors, rich tones and the style of the artwork (love silas' face) was mega appealing. i still use the dc screen saver just to look at the artwork. played nearly everyday while in elementary school for lack of any pressing obligations. Joined titan but found them rather impersonal. joined satyre and found them more friendly, but stopped playing for a long time hitting middle school. picked up dc again sophmore year in high school after getting my first computer. made hongjinbao and xiaolong then. entered a period of hiatus again after discovering other mmorpgs on the web. had my brief flings with them. mmorpgs these days have all the bells and whistles but i find my self coming back to my faithful 'ol gal DC.
things i remember about dc:
peering a character would show their equip. thats how i found out about the masamune and koutetsu, at a time when i was still sporting rattail whip and mithril mail.
used to be able to BUY enchant scrolls!!! oh curse how the significance of that escaped me then!!
i used to think the mermaid was sexy. still do in fact.
the field rat image was recycled for the dungeon rat. the mountain troll image was recycled for the dungeon troll. forest snot for the dung snot. field soldier for castle guard. the list goes on.
i liked the old sphinx pic better. much better

If you want Randomorange has a pic of the old sphinx up on his help page, somewhere. I'm sure I saw it there; anyway you can go look at it for nostalgia's sake if you wish.
What I remember most are two things: A) travelling and discovering places used to give you wits B) at some point, if you enchanted too much you weapon would explode and you would lose it and all the scrolls... *sob* I can't tell you how many I lost...

One cold night when I was walking all alone, I happened upon a ghost -town. I searched all of the buildings, but no one was there. Then I heard the faintest of whispers in my ear. I turned quickly to the noise, but all I heard was the wind. Then, an echo, the sound of leaves rustling in the trees. The sound of footsteps from behind me made a chill run up my spine...like icy fingertips on my neck. I turned around quickly drawing my blade but I was instantly frozen, afraid to move. A man came from the darkness of one of the buildings. He did not speak to me but he pointed in a direction and began to walk that way, beckoning me to follow. I found myself able to move again and quickly did as he wanted. I walked for miles wondering where he would lead me. And then I saw a brilliant light ahead of us. I realized it was a lamp and I had been walking in darkness behind this ghost. As we grew closer I realized we were entering a small village. The ghost I had been following slowly manifested into a man, no longer dead, but truly alive. It astonished me almost to the point of tears. I spoke then, not really knowing what words I would say. "What is this place?" the man then replied, "We call it Gryffindor." Then, from inside the buildings people filled the streets. Laughter and happiness surrounded me and I felt at home. But now I felt hungry... Name: Ihsan Selesta Age: 29 (character age not RL age though) Appearance: He has night-black hair and blue eyes. Has a burn scar that covers the right side of his face. Always wears black clothes and a black cloak. Wields a longbow and a sword. Personality: Serious nature, sometimes has a dark mood, charming. Insignia: Black glove on a bloodstained field Alignment: Lawful Evil Deity: Hextor (thanks D&D) Strengths: He is trained in the arts of Pancration and NInjitsu. He also know several different sword styles. He was raised using the longbow made by his village. Weaknesses: Easily Seduced. Can't say no to a woman. Education: Was raised on the general knowledge in his village and eventually went out into the world to seek more knowledge. He has extensive knowledge about the wilderness and things that live in it. Such as animals, plants, and people. He is also an excellent tracker. This is all I have for now. I might add more later. Open to suggestions.
