wow. I heard about that. Everyone from this town went to Reno, NV to the book stores, and some didn't even get to buy one, because they sold out! Sat. morning, I went to the store, and there were about 150 copies just sitting there, waiting to be taken home. so I bought it for Rind, but we havn't read it yet... any good?

On Chapter Three here...just got it today. 40% Off of original $34.99! 300 people bought the book from midnight to 3am on the first day at my local bookstore.
The opening went right into the action and I'm loving it so far.

Well, I borrowed it from my Dad, (don't worry, I read the 6th book, finally, right before it) and finished it. Do say something when everyone else has, so we can talk about it.

Then let the discussion begin! I thought the epilogue was a tad weak.

Yeah, I was very upset with it, actually. My main question since that book with Umbridge when Harry said he'd like to be an Auror has always been what the kids will end up doing as careers, and it doesn't go into that at all! (Aurors were formed to combate Voldemort, yes? And so it drove me batty that Harry wanted to be one, because by the time he had to worry about work, either Voldemort would be dead and there'd be no more need for them, or Harry wouldn't be around to work at all! Bah.) And then, what about that last weird year at Hogwarts? Did the kids taking OWLS or NEWTS that year get to retake them? What about the trio who ran off, are they going to forever be considered drop-outs or did they get honorary degrees or something? And it really made me mad about Dumbledore's getting the Elder Wand in a duel when the whole point of the wand was that it was unbeatable in a duel! Sigh. Plus, she was cramming so much plot in the darn thing there wasn't much room for all the cute little side-note magical world tid-bits that were my favourite part of the series. (And I LIKED Fred! So mad that he died. SO mad!)

That was quite sad when Fred died. Dumbledore sure took a beating too, he really got knocked off his pedestal. Overall, I enjoyed the book. It was pretty fast paced...Herm's right, there weren't alot of the cute little magic moments and I too was dissatisfied with the epilogue. Everything in the epilogue was pretty much as I guessed it would be. I would have liked more details surrounding HP, maybe some personal feelings. A friend of mine said the ending was "appropriate" and I reluctantly agree.

True, true, but I think it could easily have made two books instead of one and been the better for it. More room for the little things that made everyone fall in love with the world in the first place, you know? Still, I did enjoy the way she had Neville participate in the downfall of Voldemort like that, and I adored the bit about the hoarde of furniture crossing the hallway at Hogwarts', with McGonagall in the lead, shouting, 'Charge!' Hee hee hee!

I couldn't stand the epilogue. Hmmm I had a better idea for one, let's see if I can recall it...
Nope.
