Anyone here read the Wheel of Time books? I'm the only person I know IRL that does... I used to roleplay on a site that was based in that world, but the moderators shut it down after RJ died. It's really too bad...I liked that site a lot. But maybe RPing here will bring me back into mega writing mode again. I'm a good writer too so no worries there. ;D

I can't wait for RJ's wife to finish the last book. Only a little more to go. Just the editing and finishing up mumbojumbo now. 3000+ pages in the last book. He didn't want to make two more. And the amyloidosis didn't allow it anyway...... This character is taken from the site I used to roleplay on. He was extremely hardcore when it came to being a bad guy. He was leader of the Legion of The Black Hand. He was also High Seat of House Selesta and a Dreadlord. I systematically destroyed Sheneir and most of the places in the Borderlands before the black tower of the site and the white tower of the site saw fit to take me down. I was wielding the True Power though. ;D Then he went goodguy and then bad again.

I read all the ones that he had finished to date back in high school, but that only got me up to the eighth... I simply couldn't remember enough of the names to get back into the story for the ninth. I am waiting until no more will be written, then will work my way back through them all. They are great books, but when I recommend them to friends I am always sure to tell them that not all have been written yet and that they should probably just stop after the first three (the best three of the first eight in my opinion) until the rest are written and then go forward from there... The names don't go nuts until the fourth. My favorite character is Matt, though I think that I am probably more similar to Rand. But, I've always said, I would probably kill myself if I ever met me. If you liked RJ's writing style, you might want to take a look at L.E. Moddiset, Jr... He wrote a series... The Magic of Recluse.... I think that's what it's called. Both very similar and very different at the same time, though everyone I have met who has read RJ and liked him has also liked Jr.

My favorite characters are Rand, Perrin, and Matt but perrin most of all. He reminds me of me. I remember all of what I read in the 11 books so far...the last one is being finished/edited. it will be many pages long and probably the best by far.

Hopefully it will be a little less sexist being written by his wife... Actually, my step dad makes me think of Perrin... A LOT. Even likes wolves and is all sorts of outdoorsy.

I liked that it was so sexist. It made sense seeing that women in that timeframe, no matter fiction or reality, didn't get to say a whole lot. Except those stupid Aes Sedai. (Go Ashaman) Destructor those Aes Sedai! Also, Harriet is just editing and going off of notes. It will still be the same guy writing the book technically.

Well, these'll slow you down... about 1000 pages each. Small print.
But although the story is VERY good, the writing isn't... Sort of like JRR Tolkien.
Favorite Stories: JRR Tolkein Robert Jordan LE Modesitt Jr Lian Hearn
Some of the best WRITING I've ever seen comes from these: Laurel K. Hamilton (Just the Guilty Pleasures series, though, her writing isn't as good in the others). C.S Forrester (Especially the Hornblower series) Anne McCaffrey(Splg) (Especially Dragonsong and Dragonsinger) And.... Whoever that lady is that writes those books with the wizards and... muggles, I think.

Bad writing? pfft...I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion...
Dragonlance books are very good though. Kight of the Black rose was an interesting story. Out of all of the books Raistlin is my favorite character.

BOOKS! Oh, man, I HAVE to get on here more frequently! You all started in on my favorite topic (thank you thank you thank you), you are wonderful wonderful people and I love all of you. lol Raistlin was wonderful, so believable and sympathetic enough to really get creepy! Ed Greenwood is another good author, similar genre, and the Robert Jordan series was one Potter got me started on by giving me the first book one holiday and NOT telling me it was a series! He'll be getting pay-back for that one of these days... Actually, Potter summed up my predicament; read to the point he had written and then the gap in time made it hard to keep track of the characters. Today I only read three books; spent most of the time with family instead of reading, but normally I'm a HUGE reader. If you like the sci-fi/fantasy stuff, I can give you a very very very long list of authors to check out. Simon Green and Jim Butcher are a couple more that are easy to find and haven't been mentioned yet. I'll hook you on out-of-print authors too if you'll let me, lol.

Tasselhof grew on me; I thought him aggravating as the poor dwarf did at first. Hee hee! Has anyone (besides family, lol) here read The Witches of Karres? By James Schmitz

Have any of you read the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind? I liked them more than WOT, the type of books that you can't put down once you start reading them.

David Eddings is a good author. He wrote four different series. Also, David Farland is good. He wrote the Runelords series. Richard Morgan too. He wrote Altered Carbon, Woken Furies, and Broken Angels. This is a series as well. Best Sci/fi EVER!
The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever. All three series.
Also, would anyone like to get a WoT based RP going? If so, we'll need good guys and bad guys. I'm going to be the same character I used on SL if this goes down.

I can't stand the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant. The protagonist is a rapist -how am I supposed to have any sympathy for the man? Plus, he's quite drearily repetitive. But some of the author's OTHER works are pretty good.
How closely based on WoT? We could do one in one of the alternate universes the Aes Sedi see when they use that arch thing to test, you know the one? Be kind of interesting.

I don't think it really matters where it takes place, but when I did it before we just did it in what we called RandLand which was just a term for NormalLand.
So you don't like Thomas Covenant. Try the Altered Carbon series by Richard K. Morgan.
